John Taylor’s a man of many interests and talents.  Some of those talents he got through education (AAS & BS degrees in engineering technologies) and through certifications (SCRUM Master/Product Owner). But most of his talents he acquired because he loves to learn and isn’t afraid to try new & different things. He likes nothing better than to pass on new bits of knowledge to anyone who’ll listen.  That’s how I learned about looking for the Green Flash. John mentioned it in an email, & I was curious.  Read on, & you’ll be the proud owner of that bit of info too!

1. What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I’m the Project Manager for the re-write of the LeanTec Prophet C software.

2. What drew you to LeanTec?
I was maintaining the existing Prophet C software, and the opportunity arose to re-write the product. That challenged and excited me.

3. What do you like most about your job?
The ability to work with a sophisticated inventory management system like Prophet C.

4. What are some of the challenges in your job?
I sometimes describe the challenge this way: “Project Management sharpens my skills at cat herding…”

(I think John’s ‘cat metaphors’ may be influenced by his 2 adorable cats: Mamma Callie & Little E.)

5. Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

Running, baseball, landscaping, and carpentry.

6. Tell us about your family.

I’ve been married to Sherry for 26 years.  She stays busy as the Controller & VP of Finance for Tristar Co. (and she’s an avid lover of butterflies.)  Neither one of us has children—but we do have the 2 cats pictured above. We enjoy quiet evenings at home and
love to vacation at Sanibel Island, FL.

7. Speaking of Sanibel Island—you put a caption on the photo below that said, “looking for the green flash at sunset.” What’s a Green Flash?

Green flashes and green rays are optical phenomena that sometimes occur just after sunset or right before sunrise. When the conditions are right, a green spot or ray is visible above the upper rim of the Sun. The green appearance usually lasts for no more than a second or two—that’s why they call it a flash.

(And now you know!)

8.
People would be surprised if they knew:

A. I’ve run the Atlanta Peachtree 10K – 27 consecutive times….and I’ve also completed the NY City Marathon.

B. Most of what I learned has come from ‘trying out’ lots of different jobs – In 1963, when I was a kid, I got my first “trial” job just by asking, “Do you need some help?” I can’t tell you how many odd jobs I got through asking that one question.  And those odd jobs were what gave me my life experiences— I still ask that question today. (Those of us at LeanTec can attest to John asking us this question—and he can attest to taking on all sorts of things as a result!

9. What’s on your Bucket List?

  • Traveling to Monet’s Gardens in France
  • Traveling the US to see the National Parks System
  • Having time to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels
